OUR COMMITMENT

We have made a deliberate commitment to nonprofit organizations.

Nonprofit organizations provide essential services to our community. The dynamism of nonprofit organizations and the idealism of most nonprofit professionals and volunteers combine to improve quality of life for all of us. We want to be part of this exciting sector, and we want to make a worthwhile contribution of our own.

Because of our abiding involvement with nonprofit organizations, we can be of benefit to your organization.

We understand the special challenges you face.

To secure funding, nonprofit organizations have to work with – and satisfy - many constituencies; volunteers, clients, funders, government oversight agencies, and the public! Adele, as a former teacher, and Hilary, who began as a bookkeeper for several nonprofit organizations, know what it’s like in “the trenches” of day-to-day operation for charitable agencies.

We have experience and training in nonprofit financial management, accounting, tax and compliance.

We regularly enroll in continuing professional education regarding nonprofit issues, such as updates of Form 990 requirements, considerations of fraud in nonprofit organizations, revisions of government auditing standards, and new Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) nonprofit announcements.

And after completing audit, consulting and IRS filings for over 100 organizations, we have seen and solved a lot of problems.

Keeping costs down is a hallmark of our business plan.

We met working at a small audit firm in Walnut Creek, and discovered a shared desire to concentrate on nonprofit organizations. In late 1994 we sharpened our pencils, designed letterhead, and got busy. We shared a copier and fax with our landlord, expanded slowly, and avoided debt – all in the name of controlling costs. Today, low overhead still helps to keep Crosby & Kaneda’s services affordable.

We are committed to quality and professionalism.

However, we never sacrifice quality for price. It’s wise to save on rent and copying, foolish to skimp on staff and education. To stay current on nonprofit accounting, tax and other financial matters, we devote our continuing education and professional study to nonprofits exclusively. This strategy keeps us prepared to discuss emerging issues and advise you on the newest requirements.

    We are concerned with efficiency.
You, your mission, and your agency are special and unique – but your accounting and financial management share a lot with other successful nonprofits. We use our strategic experience in the field to maximize the value of our time with you.

Every January, we review issues and difficulties from our past year’s work, and develop checklists and questionnaires to secure the most information from you with the least amount of effort on your part. Yes, some of those checklists and questionnaires are really long – but filling out a few pages on BART or over your morning coffee sure beats spending (billable) hours and hours in face-to-face interviews!

Crosby & Kaneda’s professionals are consistently responsive to your needs – a key advantage in dollars and time.

We strive for client satisfaction and get the job done. We are confident the benefits you receive will exceed the cost of our services.
