Accounting

“Accounting” is the catchphrase for keeping records of all the money you have earned and spent by category. These categories include Assets (what you have), Liabilities (what you owe), Equity (what’s left over after using what you have to pay what you owe), Revenue (what you took in) and Expense (what you spent in order to earn your revenue).

Many professionals can perform the accounting function for your organization, including bookkeepers, financial managers, and accountants. In California, an “accountant” must be a licensed professional called a certified public accountant (CPA). For bookkeepers or financial managers, there is no California licensing or certification; it’s up to you to make sure that the consultant or bookkeeper you hire is competent and knowledgeable.

We can help you meet your accounting needs in several ways:

    · Refer you to bookkeepers and accountants who provide periodic services to nonprofit organizations; (Contact us to describe your needs and get the names of bookkeepers to call)

    · Help you interview and hire an in-house bookkeeper (Contact us to discuss your needs)

    · Train your current staff to process financial transactions, or

    · Some combination of the above to make your administrative dollars as effective as possible.

    · Provide you with a Calendar of Must Do deadlines to insure that uneven coverage of your bookkeeping functions doesn’t end up costing you late fines and credibility.

    · Evaluate your existing systems (Go here.)
